Love Yourself
May 28, 2012
I wrote a book. Something simple, something true. Something I learned that has been beautiful and transformative for me. I put it on the Amazon kindle platform and priced it low. There is a paperback version as well.
It’s about sharing something I believe is important.
I hope you read it. I hope you try out what I share. It works.
The title of the book, “Love Yourself Like Your Life Depends On It.”
(Since I’ve been asked this by a few people, you don’t need a kindle to read the book. Amazon has free Kindle apps for Mac/PC/iPhone/Android/Windows/Blackberry. You can download them here)

Good to see you back Kamal. Just purchased the book.
Thanks, Sailaja. You were on it fast! I was impressed.
Hi! I was cynical about your book but liked it so much that I posted a review on Amazon! I have bought a lot of spiritual books over the years, but you’ve written one that offers concrete ideas about how to love ourselves more.
I will definitely bookmark this site as I’d like to hear if you write more books.
Do I sound like a fan or a stalker?! LOL. Vi
Thank you, Vi. That means a lot.
I would love to get that book, but its not available for costumers outside the states…
Hi Daniel, I made it available to wherever Amazon has an online store, so pretty much everywhere. Got your email via your comment subscription, will email you to see which country you’re talking about. If you want, I’ll buy it from Amazon as a gift and send it to you.
Yes, I just bought it and read it and I’m from Canada. Loved it:)
And also found a fascinating parallel between it and Abraham Hicks’ work (getting in the Vortex). Excellent book Kamal, thanks for writing it.
How cool!
I’ve read it in a short time and I am excited to see where the exercises will carry me.
A review on amazon is already written.
Thank you for the value, you offer!
Regards from Germany!
P.S.: Where can I get your novel?!
Thank you, Hauke! The exercises do work, key is just make them a practice. At most, it’s 10 minutes out of your day, but it will transform you and your life.
Very much appreciate the review. Regarding the novel, I have the first few chapters here: http://www.novel.co/ I haven’t published it yet. The classic publishing route isn’t generous to first-time authors. Enjoying the Amazon route with this book, looking to see how that unfolds.
It was a good read, thank you. It made me smile a lot while reading, it seems like you’re a happy, genuine person – it really shows through the text somehow. It’s funny how once you start thinking “I love myself” over and over you really get more grounded in “the present” very quickly, with all of its benefits (slower breathing, more calmness etc.). Now, over to exploring your blog…
Thanks, Markus. Been enjoying hearing from you.
I loved your book. Just got done reading it. I love the visual of the oxygen mask coming down…I need to breathe before I can feel better and express love for others. GOD IS LOVE, it says in the Bible I believe. God already loves and accepts me, I’ve shared these sacred passages with juveniles in prison years ago, not believing fully this myself. Hard to express my own experience. I have seen Christians who seem to have no ability to enjoy God’s love miss this oxygen truths as I call it. I fear I am one of them. Thank you for your book.
Thank you, Melissa. Glad you’re applying it. It’s the simple truths that work.
Just finished your book…thank you! The question “If I loved myself truly and deeply would I let myself experience this?” …rocked my world. This is my new filter…thank you!
Thanks, Paulette. I love that question as well. It’s a great “reset,” no matter what situation I’m in.
That statement…that question “If I loved myself truly and deeply would I let myself experience this?” …THE most powerful part of the book. Just finished it and plan to share with friends and family.
Thanks for sharing your experience.
Elegant simplicity. Thank you for sharing even though you felt afraid of what people might think. Maybe that is a way to know when we are speaking a truth, that little tingle of fear as we expose our core.
True, Chris. I’ll remember that, thank you.
Kamal I just finished reading your book. Transformative. Simple. Powerful. I thank you.
Thank you, Kimberley. I worked hard to keep it clean and simple, so it wasn’t about me, but what I learned. Glad you enjoyed it.
Kamal, what is the song that you used in your mediatation? I don’t listen to many instrumental songs, so maybe the one you use would be a good starting point…
Hi Lucas, I’ve been switching around a little. Currently, it’s these three:
- Debussy – Clair De Lune Suite Bergamasque (Second part)
- Beethoven – Moonlight Sonata
- Pachelbel – Canon
All are from this album:
Erik Satie Gymnopedie 1 and Other Classical Music Favorites
I originally started off with this one:
- Oneness Blessing (Instrumental)
From this artist: Nahuel Schrajis
One of my favorite albums is the Bach Cello Suites performed by Yo-Yo Ma. The other is Ragas performed by Ravi Shakar and Ali Akbar Khan.
Thanks Kamal, I’ll definitely check them out.
Also, I’ve found that when I remember to say ‘I love myself’, my posture naturally straightens and a smile tends to appear on my lips. It’s good!
Another piece that works well (at least for me):Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt.
So many things I could or maybe should say………but right now the only thing I can say is: I LOVE MYSELF!
I love it! Thank you, Kimberly.
Kamal, I stumbled across a link to your book serendipitously, and I immediately felt I needed to order it. I can’t really describe it, but I had a very deep “knowing” that it was going to be significant for me. I purchased it right away — but then didn’t read it. I had it opened in my browser for several days…it was almost like I was afraid to read it. Maybe I knew on some level that it was going to be profound in my life.
Anyway, I finally read it yesterday and have started the practices. The idea of replacing the old mental loop with the new one makes perfect sense, and feels right. It’s funny, I am no newcomer to the world of personal development or self-help techniques, and you certainly haven’t said anything really NEW in the book…but something about the way you put things (and the simplicity of it all) feels very solid and deep for me. I’m very grateful to have found you and your book.
A question for you: What do you do when you ask yourself “If I loved myself truly and deeply, would I let myself experience this?” and the answer is no — yet you still choose to keep experiencing whatever it is for whatever reason anyway? For example, a bad habit, or something you know a person who was truly loving himself would not choose? Is it just all about the awareness of it, even if one is not strong or motivated enough to change the action yet?
I am looking forward to reading more. Thank you, Kamal.
Hi Lynn,
Yup, there really is nothing new under the sun. Basic human truths remain the same. For me, it was exploring outside, then going inside to find it. But that is a tried-and-true method across centuries as well.
Your question is a good one. I use the question to shift me away from the mental space I’m in at the moment. Often, the awareness is enough to make me change my thoughts and actions. But yes, there are times I continue to do it – but now, I’m doing it consciously, being cause in my actions. Even in simple awareness, there is power.
I’m really glad you enjoyed the book. Thank you.
Hi Kamal,
I came accross your book on facebook. I guy I follow/subscribe had posted the link to it.
I really liked that guys book and know he’s clued up.
Checkout out the link and your book and within a couple of hours, had bought it, read it and loved it!
Went back on FB to thank the guy, but for some reason, that link wasn’t there anymore.
I thought ‘that’s funny’. Anyway, I believe in synchronicity and the Law of Attraction and so believe that it was my time to read your book.
Thanks for taking the time to write it, for having the courage to share your personal journey and for making it available to so many at such a small cost.
I love reading and have read a lot of personal growth / self-help type books and I was amazed at how simple and yet powerful your book was.
It came at a time when I needed to it and it has helped me.
Thank you once again and may you blessed. I will certainly recommend your book to all.
Love,
Indika
Thank you, Indika! I saw your review on Amazon as well. It was beautiful. I very much appreciate your kind words.
Kamal, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us. Couple of times in the book you have mentioned that publishing it was really not easy for you. For my part I can say it was extremely valuable. I have read your book yesterday and already today started being tender to myself.
I could relate to so many things in your book… Being quite successful, looking for challenges every day and at some moment finding myself lying in bed staring at the ceiling, having difficulties to understand, what’s going on around me. Getting out of the bed required looking really within myself and trying to understand myself. That was the first step, but to keep on going was even more difficult. Your book is simple to understand and your instructions so easy to follow. I still have problems with my mind wandering around, doubs and fears creeping in but thanks to you I have clear instructions on how to calm it down.
I want to let go and let the magic happen! Thanks again!
That’s really good to hear, Agata – if I’d listened to fears and never put the book out there, these comments would never have existed. Great lesson for me.
By the way, the mind always wanders – that’s its nature. I think when we realize that, we’re gentler on ourselves, and that has the side benefit of allowing us to shift to thoughts that we want.
Will it be available in Spanish? I Loved your book and would love to share it with a Spanish speaking friends and family. Trying to put this in practice has been harder that I thought it would be; It has made me realized how incredibly self-critical and negative I am towards myself! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Susy,
Hadn’t thought about it being in a different language. Perhaps something I should look into, thank you for that thought. I’m glad you’re doing the practice, by the way.
Kamal, thank you for sharing your experience. I stumbled upon your book on Amazon. I was descending into darkness, but your book was the switch which put the lights on. Thank you very much, it made a difference in my life.
My pleasure, Andrew. Hearing from you and all those who’ve leave me messages here and/or review the book, talking about what it’s meant to them….that’s magic. Thank you!
I have almost finished your book for the 2nd time!! it has presented itself at the most perfect time for me! Thankyou Kamal! Such a great book!
question: for the last 4 days I have been saying to myself “I Love Myself” when ever I can and gently return to it when I forget… is it ok to just say it even if you’re not feeling any emotions as you go about your day or in your experience does it only ‘work’ if you make an effort to make it emotionally charged?
a part of me is questioning whether I’m doing it ‘right’ or not…. maybe it’s a fear of spending time and effort saying it and it not working.
once again thankyou!
Gilly G
Hi Gilly, glad you’re enjoying it. My pleasure. Regarding your question, if you don’t feel it, then just do it repeatedly, making it your primary mental loop whenever you can. But…the most powerful way I’ve discovered is to gently pause, breathe it in and make my self feel it. It’s amazing how we can actually create our feelings when needed. That works better than anything. Even if the feeling is temporary and you don’t believe it’s real, it works.
Hope that helps.
I would love to get that book, but I can’t get it where I am (Singapore). Any alternative ways to get the book?
Hi Bob, I made the kindle version available everywhere. Do you have a kindle app on your computer/tablet/phone? If so, it should work. I also just put out a paperback version available via all Amazon international stores. If neither of these work for you, please email me.
Hello,
I just purchased and read your book in less than half an hour. I have recently decided to transform myself and my life and have been reading several self-help books and decided to try yours.
Thank you. Thank you for making it so short, so simple and so affordable. You cut down to the truth and I feel that it’s the most effective way to get an important message across.
Most of all, thank you for your truth. Most of us tend to forget how important loving oneself is. That reminder is certainly going to help me on my journey.
Ps -I thoroughly enjoy your writing style; I hope to read one of your novels soon!
Hi Carla,
Thanks so much. Yes, I priced it the cheapest that Amazon allowed. I could do it free, I suppose, but having built internet products, I’ve learned that even if someone pays a little bit, then they’ll at least check out what they bought. Whereas many free books never get read.
I hope for you to read one of my novels soon too…
Hi Kamal,
I feel compelled to thank you for your book.
(I found it through James Altucher’s blog. )
I bought your book about a month ago and I have only in the last week or so noticed how happy I am.
I still have a lot of challenges to deal with seeing as I have attached my self worth to my success in my businesses. It has been a tough few years but recently it all started to snowball and really crumble. I spent some time on the floor not wanting to get up, getting sick and thinking that maybe everyone would be better off if I was dead.
Your book came at the perfect time. I feel like I have taken back control.
The replaying of my mistakes still roll around my head but they get cut short by my habit of “I love myself”
The simplicity of it is it’s brilliance.
Thanks
Matthew.
Hi Matthew,
James gave me quite a gift, writing about the book. Completely understand where you were, I was there as well, all those thoughts and more. Really glad to hear that you’re taking control and shifting the mental loop.
The stuff that works, basic truths, it really is simple. Glad it connected with you.
Hi Kamal….I have just finished reading your book, adding highlights and simply….enjoying every word!
I really loved it….I love positive writing, and positive people ( obviously…you are truly one of them)
I have a beautiful 5 yr old son, who like me, is quite sensitive to world events and events in our own lives…I read him parts of your book and told him to tell himself all the time ” I love myself, I love myself, I love myself….only goodness can follow when we do love ourselves!
Thank you for your beautiful words and for putting them in a book for everyone to read, they can only serve to benefit people’s lives!
Thank you again, Donna
Hi Donna, I love it! The image of your son doing that put a big smile on my face. Give him a big hug from me. Thank you!
Hi. I downloaded your book yesterday and read it today. It made me smile, it made me laugh and I also shed a tear or two. It is simple and profound and I intend to put in the practice and then who knows…
Well, you’ll see magic in your life
Hello Kamal, I really like your book. I read it in one go as soon as it arrived about a week ago and have been doing the practices since. Last night I had an amazing dream where a young woman (not anyone I know) fell in love with me, and I with her. I won’t bore you the details, and can’t express the depth of emotion I felt here, but I’m sure this was a tender and beautiful aspect of myself that I have suppressed for years – as many men are wont to do. The feeling is still with me and I’m certain this is a valuable step in my search for integration and self-acceptance. So thanks, Amazon review coming up…
Thank you, Anthony! Beautiful dream. Glad you’re doing the practices. I do them daily, it’s like eating for me, except here, I’m nourishing myself from the inside out.
By the way, thank you for the Amazon review. The way Amazon works, it helps others discover the book in their search. Much appreciated!
Downloaded the book onto my Kindle tonight and eagerly read it with great hope. I’m a 70 year old female and an 18 year relationship ended in May. I just can’t seem to get over the multiple layers of loss and I can get blind-sided by a memory, leading to a sense of blame or remorse and often dissolviing into sobs. Could so identify with hiding under the covers in a dark room. Seeing a therapist is useful, but no drastic changes. Self-esteem has sunk to an all time low and searching for self-esteem books on amazon is how I found yours. All of this is just to say that I hope your sensible techniques will save me. Fear that if I didn’t have my wonderful childen and grandchildren, giving up would be tempting, but I would NEVER transfer MY pain to them.. I’m an academic (psychology and neuroscience) and it makes sense. (Just felt tears leakinig but took a deep breath and said, “I love myself.” There’s hope!)
from 8/26/12 Anonymous: Went to sleep “thinking,” sometimes saying “I love myself” over and over. Started the day the same way and did the face to the mirror exercise. If I let myself, I could start crying / sobbing. Is this a good time for “If I really and truly loved myself. . .” (I’ve tried to imagine cleaning a dirty window to bring light into the room.)
Hi anonymous, I’m really sorry to hear of your loss. This stuff is hard. But ironically, the solution doesn’t have to be. It just has to have a commitment and practice.
All I can do is share my experience and hope it helps others. So, regarding the question that you asked, anytime is a good time to ask that question. The answer differs from situation to situation, moment to moment, but it is always our truth. And that is what matters.
Regarding cleaning the dirty window, a wise friend shared that with me years ago. It’s a perfect metaphor for healing ourselves from the inside out. Our job is never to fight the darkness, purely to clean the window. And the way to do that is with loving ourselves. I’ve found that to be true.
The one thing, it does have to be a practice. A commitment. We have all these years of negative self-talk to overcome. But if we do it as a practice, especially if we can add feeling to it – doesn’t matter if we believe it at the moment or not – it does work.
I read a lot, trying to figure out why what I did worked for me. But that was after the fact, when I had the luxury to think about reasons. In the end, if it works, that’s what matters anyway.
Please email me anytime – my email is in the book. I’d be happy to be of help any way I can.
The reason I need to “love myself” is probably multi-layered, but the most immediate reason is May 2012 abandonment after an 18 year relationship. (see above). I keep getting blind-sided (several times a day, at least) by tears and sobbing. I’m told that’s normal and I have to go through, accept, the “griefing process.” (Oh, it’s grief, for sure!) I’m being sure to “love myself” exercises, but, the tears seem to be getting in the way, i.e., they seem to be counter to everything that I’m doing! HELP!! Anyone else have this experience? How did you deal with it?
Tears are good and ok, they’re honest. Love yourself through them. You’ll know you’re on the other side when one day, the tears are of gratitude. I know that to be true.
Make that “being TRUE to. . . exercises”
I discovered your book today, it resonated something to me that deep down I have always known and never knew how to execute. Thank you for your bravery in sharing and for the light it has created, Love and Light x
Thank you for that, Kiran. It’s been a great lesson for me. Share your truth, share it simply, and the world responds. I hope you’re doing it and it’s creating magic in your life.
I love myself
I love you
:@)
I have read your book and think it is fantastic, I love myself is my mantra, I say it as much as i can throughout the day and last thing at night even though I may not feel loving. It worked for you im sure it will work for me thank you and god bless.
Thank you, Conor. Truths are basic and when applied consistently, they work. I’m glad you’re doing it!!
Incredible book. Thank you so, so much. You know I sometimes look at things like this and I’m like holy crap these things are pure gold and how it’s the most important thing ever (also, thanks for not hiking up the price and making it some huge deluxe program that costs 199USD with a 60 day moneyback guarantee. Seriously appreciate that). And then people like you write about how you were THIS close to not writing it and it blows me away.
Seriously, thank you so much. I’m going to read your book at least 10 times while practicing this newfound BURNING DESIRE of mine that began 5 minutes ago.
xx,
Catt

Haha, of course. Very much enjoyed your comment.
I just finished reading your book. How very profound it was for me at this time in my life. I have always known that I did not love and accept myself on a deep level, but I am in a place in my life right now where I am hearing this message loud and clear. Deep in my heart I know that I cannot move forward until I have learned to love and accept myself. It is the missing key to my spiritual growth. It is like having a house built without a foundation. For me, the foundation is self love. I love myself, I love myself, I love myself. This is my work right now. Thank you so much for taking the risk to share this book in a very easy way to understand and implement. Blessings to you! I am going to practice, practice and practice. Warmly, Susan
That’s beautiful. Thank you, Susan.
I bought your book today as I’m researching about the concept of Happiness for my PhD studies. It’s very late now. I have read your book and I want to thank you for its beauty, its originality in that it has taken a truth, sheared away to a seed and presented that seed so eloquently that the reader is drawn into the narrative. It’s also amazingly transformative; somehow, a primitive carrnal state responds in a profound way when wet ell ourselves the truth; I love myself xx
Thank you dear messenger of this truth xx
